The Association’s Philosophy and Mission

Deeply rooted in the concept of “traditional karate” we strive toward mental, physical and spiritual perfection. Knowing this is a lifelong journey we advocate an educational view that promotes well-rounded individuals of high character who will lead balanced lives and contribute to society in general. This Way includes progressive instruction in physical technique, spiritual discipline, self development, competitive sport and a healthy community spirit.

Kihon, Kata and Kumite

Classes are conducted in a simple traditional dojo atmosphere. Physical training is often strenuous, as we wish to develop strong bodies to help contribute to our health, sense of confidence and well being. As will all traditional styles emphasis is placed on the solid foundation of Kihon (basics) , Kata (forms) and Kumite (fighting).

The Phoenix Legend symbolizes the importance of using these three essential building blocks to develop a non-quitting spirit which enables us to see that “nothing is impossible” and no setback permanent. It is within the individual that the Association recognizes the possibilities of its simple adage: to RISE.
